CARE
CARE provides direct service to individuals and families as well as early and on-going training and development for students and professionals working with developmental disabilities.
Applied Research
At the ARU, researchers develop curriculum and assessment materials, promote research to improve classroom instructional methods, and train professionals to become leaders in their field.

Calling all DATA Project Model Implementers
If you have attended a training about the DATA Project Model and are currently implementing it and you are attending DEC in Minneapolis, we are looking for you. We are looking for people who would be willing to participate in a focus group with staff from Brookes Publishing. Remembering Dr. White
Dr. Owen Robert White died at home on Saturday, March 31, 2012. The Haring Center and the fields of special education and applied behavior analysis lost a friend, colleague, and teacher. Owen worked at the University of Washington for 39 years and retired in June 2011 to spend more time with his beloved bride, Peggy, his children, and grandchildren. He was the director of the Experimental Education Unit from 1990-1993. Owen was a pioneer in the area of Precision Teaching and measurement. He will be remembered and missed by his many graduate students, colleagues, and friends.
Applied Research Unit Researchers to Investigate Intervention for Infants & Toddlers with Autism
Dr. Ilene Schwartz, director of the Haring Center, will head up a 4-year study to examine the efficacy of an intervention for children under the age of 3 with autism and their families. The study, funded by a $2.8 million IES grant, is one of the first studies of its kind, and will help inform critical early intervention practices for very young children on the autism spectrum.
